Hello All

Hello, blog readers and fellow bloggers of the internet! My name is Ashlee, and I apologize for the corny greeting. I am a high school student in New York. I like to read and write stories. My hobbies are swimming and jiujitsu, and this is the first blog I’ve ever made.
My blog will focus on today’s pop culture. Now before you groan and start to click off, no, this is not a blog all about One Direction and Justin Bieber and blah blah blah. This is a blog comparing today’s culture to the culture of the 80s and how the music differed which affects how the people acted at that time. Sounds better, right? I am writing this because I want people my age to be aware of how different the times were. Like before there were CDs, there were stereos, and the content of the music played a part in the attitudes of the people living in that time and a big part in fashion, as well. Before, the rappers and the pop singers wore clothes that fit,  and maybe they were even a little bigger than their actual size, yet today’s artists are wearing booty shorts, and it has become acceptable for kids to dress  like that, too. What happened to  when dressing conservatively was the “in” style? I’m not saying to wear dresses to your ankles, but when did a dress that reached your knees become too long? Maybe if the artists of songs today changed how they addressed women and dress in their videos, today’s culture would change for the better. Certain things like that. Most of you may call this a rant- it sort of is- but it’s an awareness rant, which is far more interesting, right?
So this is my blog- a blog talking about the issues of today’s culture, the decline of great music- such as rap with Heavy D and pop music with the band Cameo- and how this decline of said great music leads into our youth’s “accepted” behavior today.  It will be a combination of old news articles and current events and my thoughts comparing the two. Also, I’ll be researching  old song lyrics, pictures of people wearing the clothes of those time eras and even doing some interviews with people I know that are 30+ years old, to get an accurate idea of what those time periods and the people were like. Some of you aren’t too interested in this and well that’s your opinion. For those who are wondering what a high school student has to say about how our culture has changed because of the music and are curious to see her knowledge of the culture “way back then,” stick around, there’s more to come.
